Poll question: Define the word "palin".

Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 01:33 PM by ColbertWatcher
Yesterday, I started a thread (here) asking for suggestions to define the word "palin" in much the same way Dan Savage defined the word "santorum" (be careful googling the term if you are not familiar with it, as it may be considered not safe for work).

I posted a "sample definition" to get the ball rolling:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=4127208&mesg_id=4127489

palin - an incompetent person chosen by an incompetent boss to replace him when he retires. This replacement is so incompetent, he makes the boss look better than he is.

Also any frivolous distraction.

I think the language is a little too inelegant for a dictionary definition, but it can be voted on by DUers as suggestion #9.

The one with the most votes will be posted on the Truthiness Encyclopedia, from where--it is my hope--that people will google bomb to push the word into the mainstream!

(EDIT TO ADD) I'm only going to add the winner to the Truthiness Encyclopedia if this poll gets at least 100 votes. So far, 14 votes is no where near a DU consensus.(/EDIT)

Here are the suggestions for you to vote on:

Definition suggestion #1
I came up with it, but thought it might get the thread locked or offend some people, so I posted it on the Truthiness Encyclopedia, here as definition #1

Definition suggestion #2
I also came up with this one, but this time instead of self-censorship, I got carried away. By the time I got back to the thread there were so many other definitions, I decided to create this poll.

Definition suggestion #2 is also posted on the Truthiness Encyclopedia, here as definition #2

Definition suggestion #3
Created by DUer Ilsa:

(Pretty gross) A palin is a medical term for when a

1. tampon "gets lost" in a vagina and the doctor has to find the string and remove it.

2. Also refers to the procedure used to remove said tampon, i.e: Palinectomy,

3. as well as the odor created from it, palinodorous.

"The girls dormitory bathroom smells palinodorous."

Rude nurse yelling down hallway in clinic: "Doc! We got another palin! I'll get a speculum and air freshener!"

"My insurance doesn't cover palinectomies."

A Palin = A teenager so neglected by her parents that she believes virgins cannot get pregnant.

Definition suggestion #5

The paleontological term for human footprints...

Palin (noun):
The paleontological term for human footprints alleged to be found within dinosaur tracks.

ex:
I saw several excellent examples of palin at the local Creation Science museum. These palin proove that the Earth is, indeed, only 6,000 years old.

And notice that -- much like "moose" -- the word is its own plural!

Definition suggestion #6
Created by DUer ColbertWatcher:

the ability to instantly understand a complex issue simply by looking out one's kitchen window and seeing something related to it

A Palin is the sharp pain in the ass . . .

you get when the partner you were counting on to help you finish a project turns out to be a worthless dumbass.

Definition suggestion #8
Created by DUer AzNick:

An old man passing his mistress for his assistant

An old man (65 and over), with a young woman, who he pretends is his assistant, while she is completely unfit for the job, is about as smart as a stick, even maybe a few screws short of a hardware store, but she actually is his mistress and even the trophy wife (still younger than the gentleman but much older than the mistress) buys it. Of course everyone around the old man is furious, especially those who were expecting to get promoted into the assitant position.

Examples of the expression:

. "Did you hear about Tiffany? She is the Palin of a CEO in Scottsdale!"; "Oh! Good for her!"
. "Did you see the boss's new Palin? I liked the previous one better."
. "Britney Palined her way through college"
. "Sweetie, you're too dumb for college. Time for Palin 101!"

I have my own suggestion (see reply)
