I'm so sorry. Even I expected Bush to pull himself together and read someone's prepared remarks, something like: "We have nothing to fear but fear itself." Something! Anything! Instead that fucking son of a bitch ran and hid, and when he finally reappeared he told us to go shopping.

We live in California, a good long way from New York City, but we have friends and relatives in Massachusetts (where the planes took off) and New York and Washington DC. My sister's children each have a friend who lost a grandma in those flights. My own kids, who are older than hers, were both prepared to join the Army to defend our shores (and I thank God they decided to wait and see).

I'm so sorry. My heart hurts for you, and I am in tears.
