48. Names placed in nomination
It is nothing new, different, or disturbing to have several names placed into nomination at the convention. In 1960 the "horse-race" as it were, actually took place on the convention floor. Likewise in 1968 though I have no direct memory of that convention. In 1972 the Georgia delegation gave one vote to an unknown favorite son prompting a question from the chair: "Jimmy who?" In 1976 Governor Jerry Brown, CA, a candidate with pledged delegates, did not release his delegates until just before roll call. As soon as he endorsed the eventual nominee, Jimmy who's handlers promptly revoked Governor Brown's car pass, forcing him to walk out of the convention hall with the rest of the rabble.

Hillary had an amazing run. It is in the Democratic Party's tradition that her supporters honor that run at the convention.
