27. Very rich people often take on a "cause"
Edited on Fri Jun-27-08 01:25 AM by SoCalDem
It's a way they salve their souls.. they know they make too much money and live too well, and to make others not resent the hell out of them, they take on causes that humanize them, and make them lovable..

If their efforts actually help some people, it's a plus, but most poor people are poor because they lack money.. They cannot earn their own money because jobs are non-existent, or there are wars that prevent investment that would lead to jobs, or their governments are corrupt, or their ancient waterways & lands have been polluted, fenced off or appropriated and sold by rich people for MORE money, so they can then afford to be charitable as they toss bags of flour off pick up truck-beds..

Instead of "donating" moeny and food, setting up local businesses and building modest homes & digging safe water-wells for people would be a better way to go, but it does not get the fanfare..the worldwide applause..
