First: Pat Buchanan. Pat's been the Nazi in our midst since time immemorial. He, like other extremists of the right-wing are extraordinarily patient when it comes to the elimination of all things which they consider heretical: New Deal Programs, Medicare, the Holocaust. He was a Holocaust Denier long before it was 'fashionable' to be one and he is nothing if not enthusiastic in his ground-breaking travails. I recall many years ago, George Will, another intellectual-fraud, 'schooled' in history and political science, was addressing a group of which I was a member here in Philadelphia. A lady in the audience enquired of him as to why he and his Conservative brethren were still trying to overturn Roe v. Wade and his response was: You've won for now...just let it go.

So another member of the crowd stood right up and said, "Mr. Will, we are not so stupid as to be fooled by your rhetoric. We all heard you say "for now" and want to know if you are personally interested in seeing that a woman's right to choose is going to be abrogated when your ilk take over the Supreme Court. He evaded her completely and 'moved on'. Buchanan plays the game with the best of them: he sees this like an old-fashioned Western skirmish - give and take...run around the rock...'cover me'...here comes the sheriff...lose a guy..get two of theirs...etc. He is a devious sort and every time I read here that someone says, "Boy, Pat was right about that one!", I could just puke. Hitler and others of his nature did not rise to the top by telling pure lies like the Bush folks did...they wove truth in with the lies to make them more believable and then threw the Big Lie in there and it seemed 'just right' to the waiting masses. Buchanan's assertion that the Holocaust was a result of the War is so facile and stupid that many will believe it. I give a little credit to Mike Barnicle, who the other day, ridiculed Buchanan on air, but true to his nature, Pat just let it go. He does not fight those petty fights...he just lets the little darts fly off his armor. They do not hurt his cause or his ego.

One thing you can say for these crypto-fascist Rethugs: they're remarkably patient and they, like the Terminator will not stop until they've done what they have set out to do. We could all learn a real lesson from their strategies.

Second: It is up to us here at DU and in our other lives to perpetuate the truth about the Republicans and their "Presumptive" nominee. We need to send the links to all our buddies and encourage them to do the same to those who are 'on the fence' and even those whose antipathy would be aroused by receiving these communications. This is no time, as Mrs Thatcher(!) would say, "to go wobbly".

Third: Best of luck to all of us as we enter this difficult, but hopefully rewarding era of politics. Remember, as angry as you may get toward one of our legitimate DU members, it doesn't hold a candle to how mad you'll be if we don't win in November.
