This e-mailer inquired if I had "gone soft on homosexuals." Actually, I was rather floored. Is this person so dumb as to not understand that while AIDS initially was spread predominately through the homosexual community because of their immoral lifestyle, that AIDS does not discriminate? AIDS is an epidemic on this globe and while I do hate what homosexuals and lesbians do to themselves, only God has the right to be the final judge of their behavior. It's well documented in the Bible what the Lord thinks about sodomy and what his punishment will be for this "abomination." But, it's God who judges all of us in the end, not me. The deliberate development and unleashing of AIDS on the world is a whole different subject altogether.

Yet that's not my main point on this topic. Conflating legit, broad-based, peer reviewed science with a tenuous conspiracy construct, as many of these people have done, serves no one's agenda.

Graves, cited previously, is no virologist. He's a lawyer. And this Devvy guy is on another tack. Neither are fluent in the field.

Retroviruses are notorious for the rapidity of their mutations. Hence the broad number of diseases attributed to that class of viruses, the challenges for effective therapies and the broad range of responses to treatment in individuals for HIV disease, in particular.

As a disclaimer, I'm no virologist either, but I know from first hand account how damaging this kind of hyperbole can be. We've been around these "AIDS cure" and "government conspiracy" blocks one too many times.
