In the end, we want to control guns because we want to control crime. At least, that's the argument, although in some respects it seems that some people want to control guns as part of a culture war.

But, if the laws voted on control guns for the sake of controlling guns (look!!! The Europeans do it!!!), and will not control crime, then it's not a sane action.

Sane law: expanding the NICS for all firearm sales, not just from licened dealers.
Insane law: so-called "assault weapons bans".
