Mukasey, has launched a lawsuit against the NY State Board of Elections

From Progressive Democtrats of America:

The Department of Justice, under newly appointed Attorney General Mukasey, has launched a lawsuit against the NY State Board of Elections, demanding that New York State introduce uncertified touch-screen voting machines (also known as "DRE's") into all of its voting precincts in 2008. Voting-integrity activists are alarmed, outraged and are organizing to stop this.

The basis of the lawsuit is that NY State must introduce DREs in order to make its voting system accessible to the disabled, as required under the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). However, there exist OTHER, more reliable technologies that can enable the disabled to vote on paper ballots with the assistance of a ballot marker machine. The paper ballot system being presented by a broad coalition of New York voting-integrity activists as the most viable alternative to DRE's is the Paper Ballot Optical Scanning system (also known as PBOS).
