48. Actually, the great physicist, Niels Bohr, proposed just that
and Einstein agreed with him. In 1944, Bohr met with Roosevelt and Churchill to discuss open sharing of nuclear technology. It was his belief, as well as several of his colleagues that this technology would eventually be known by many nations, as well as some renegade states and that it's control would best be dealt with internationally - not just by one or two superpowers.

Bohr was waaaaay ahead of his time. Needless to say, the America is God crowd and the Cold Warriors won out.
