Now why wouldn't/doesn't Gore just give a 'so-called Sherman statement' and end speculation and the draft movement's efforts/energy?

WHY HASN'T HE DONE THIS?

I can find no good answer if he has indeed decided in his mind not to run.

And what's more, in the second statement, he alludes (almost smugly, if I might add - emphasis mine, again):

'If they want to do that, fine. I don't have to play that game.'

When I read this, my first thoughts were "why would he even feel the need to make this first-person comment (regarding his relation to the topic) - as opposed to just commenting generically on the nature of this years early campaigning?

I think there's something up his sleeve...
