There are trolls and disruptors and freeps and Republicans in Democrats' clothing. The mods work hard to keep the place vacuumed clean. They count on the alert button. It's a violation of DU rules to call anyone a freeper or a troll. If you alert on posts like that, they will be deleted. (It may take the volunteer mods a little while to get to it, but they will notice the alert, I guarantee it.)

People who repeatedly break DU rules will be asked to leave.

If you use the alert button you are doing all you can to help keep DU a respectful community. You can't do more than that except to obey the rules yourself. Just ignore the occasional jabs. DU can be a raucous place. If it is getting to you, take a reality break for a day or week or month. Most of us do this occasionally for our mental health!
