73. Political expediency and numbers do not make the decision moral or even logical.
The Kamikaze attacks couldn't have gone on indefinitely their entire war making machine was being quickly destroyed and they would have run out of planes and pilots in a very short amount of time. The true nastiness of the situation is recognizing the the Japanese societal concept called for every man, woman, and child, to defend their homeland to the death. It would have been a bloody mess with likely over a million U.S. casualties. That said, if we're going to claim to be a moral and just society then we have to act accordingly and not just when it suits us, not just when it's politically expedient, and not even when it saves soldiers lives in war. I'm a Veteran myself and am completely aware of the sacrifice that demands, but humans like to pretend that some ideals are worth such sacrifices, you know, like Liberty?.?.?.?

It's one of those interesting philosophical questions. As humans we seem to think that human life is priceless, but are willing to sacrifice it for freedom and other lofty pursuits. But that's another topic...
