Fired CNN anchorman Rick Sanchez, who cut his broadcast teeth at WSVN-Channel 7 in Miami for nearly 20 years, phoned comedian Jon Stewart yesterday to apologize for calling him “a bigot” in the rant about “Jews owning the media” that got Sanchez canned Friday.

When Page2Live reached motor-mouthed Sanchez in his Atlanta home this morning, he sounded shell-shocked after his record-fast firing and the snowballing of the story online. Sanchez said he is not allowed to comment and hung up the phone, but did add he has no plan to return to South Florida.

Then, the Cuban-American Sanchez’ wife, Suzanne, took to Facebook to announce that the 52-year-old Sanchez had a 30-minute conversation with Stewart Monday afternoon. While Sanchez has been known for his clownish antics on-the-air, there was no doubt Sanchez meant it.
