114. this is not new
approximately one hundred years ago the repukes and democrats were in bed together. Nepotism, corruption was rampant and the good old robber barons were having a field day, while the rest of Americans were striving to make ends meet. The progressive populist party was formed and all were welcomed (even minorities). I'd say that movement had an impact on both parties at the time. Every now and then they need to act as if they are in opposition and sometimes they really are, like when FDR (one of theirs) was elected. Boy, did they get a surprise--but the people were very restless during the depression and not all bought into "you're lazy, that's why you can't find a job" or "pull yourself up by your bootstraps." Unions were stronger then, and if you watch Moore's film on capitalism, you'll see the upheaval that took place then.

And when enough people have no decent jobs, and enough people are homeless and their children are lucky to have a meal a day--there will be nothing left to lose again. Will the people get another FDR or will the elite throw a bone instead of a boot? Only time will tell. However, I am hoping that the economy does a major turn around for all involved, but the policies being implemented, I don't hold much hope for us. A jobless recovery is no recovery at all.
