18. I think the problem is that so many major changes are coming from the top
regardless of how the people feel about it in polls.

Take Madfloridian"s wonderful work on charter schools or the Piratization of education. Nobody really wants corporations teaching their children and no one wants teachers that are underqualified and poorly paid. No one wants to have to call an 800 number for a corporate headquarters to complain about something that is being taught in the classroom. But Arne Duncan has been given a lot of money and starpower help (Bill Gates) to transform public education into corporate dominated education. The fact that Obama is not listening, that state leaders are not listening, and that local Democrats, like Antonio Villaragosa here in Los Angeles are not only not listening but taking funding from charter school corporations like Green Dot makes the average person feel absolutely hopeless.
