25. A Presbyterian church in Lincoln, NE was (maybe still is) a target for protests every Sunday

because an MD who provided abortion services was a deacon there--when we lived in Lincoln.

I went down, with Bible in hand, one Sunday (summer of 2000, I think) to talk to these people. The city let them demonstrate on the sidewalk in front of the church every week. They carried extremely large photos of remains from abortions. The church was losing members with small kids on a regular basis.
One of the members came out to talk to me and I asked them why they let these people (It was Operation Rescue) get away with this, week after week. I asked them why they didn't organize members, or pro-choice members from other local churches, to come out on the street and carry their own signs to obscure what the Operation Rescue folks were displaying. He had no answer.

It was quite an experience. I read Numbers 5:11-31 to the group of protesters and asked them what they thought happened if the adulteress was guilty and pregnant when the priest administered the potion? The obvious answer is that--and it's right there in the language--she would miscarry. I asked them what it meant that God would give Moses a ritual for the priests to use that could result in an abortion?

They couldn't stand that, started calling me the devil, and the guy who was directing all these women
counseled them not to speak to me. They all went to their posts, surrounding the building, and I walked
around trying to engage some of these sheeple women in a dialogue. They all started praying in response
to my trying to start a conversation.

It was one of the weirdest experiences I've ever had.

Don't know whether that group is still demonstrating in front of the church.

Any Lincoln, NE DU'ers know? It was Westminster Presbyterian Church on Sheridan Blvd.
