There's killing one's kid, and there's being stupid and letting the kid get killed some way that may or may not have been easily foreseeable. Mom gets high, falls asleep. Kid drowns in bathtub.

That is criminal negligent homicide, but not a willful attack on the child.

If that happened, the mother of the child is guilty of negligent homicide and hiding the body.

It's a tragedy, and the mother likely has some culpability, but learning the truth may require getting her out and working on her. I do not favor the holding of people for BAIL, especially when it is so high. It says quite clearly: If you have money, you can get out pending a trial. You get to live a fairly normal life and defend yourself. If you don't have the money, then screw you. Stay in jail. Have the jailer decide all your major decisions, limit your outside contacts, and listen in on all your conversations.

We treat the accused in this country like SHIT. It's a simle concept, this innocent until proven guilty.
