US military deaths in Iraq at 4,071

As of Saturday, May 3, 2008, at least 4,071 members of the U.S. military
have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according
to an Associated Press count. The figure includes eight military civilians.
At least 3,315 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's
numbers.

The AP count is four more than the Defense Department's tally, last updated
Friday at 10 a.m. EDT.

The British military has reported 176 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18; Poland,
21; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, seven; El Salvador, five; Slovakia,
four; Latvia, three; Estonia, Georgia, Netherlands, Thailand, Romania, two
each; and Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, South Korea, one death each.

The latest deaths reported by the military:

• Four Marines were killed Thursday by a roadside bomb in Anbar province.

• A soldier died Friday from an explosive in eastern Baghdad.

The latest identifications reported by the military:

• Army Sgt. Jerry L. DeLoach, 45, Jackson, Ga., died July 7, 2007, at Fort Knox,
Ky., of a non-combat related injury after being medically evacuated from Iraq.
He was assigned to the Warrior Transition Unit at Fort Knox.

• Army Staff Sgt. Chad A. Caldwell, 24, Spokane, Wash., died Wednesday in
Mosul during combat; assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry
Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.

• Army Sgt. 1st Class Lawrence D. Ezell, 30, Portland, Texas, died Wednesday
in Baghdad of wounds suffered from an explosive; assigned to the 71st
Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group, Fort Carson, Colo.
