14. Um, no.
I had a college professor who once proclaimed the Republic Party dead. Their veep had resigned under a cloud of scandal, Watergate had revealed their criminal behavior with complicity at the very highest levels, the media was most definitely NOT on their side, a Democratic candidate had just won handily, and by all indications, the GOP should have slunk away in shame. That was in 1977 or '78.

Instead, within only a couple of years, they came ROARING back with two landslide elections, three consecutive presidential terms (and many believe that Bush I would have been re-elected if not for Ross Perot--remember, BC won with only 43% of the popular vote,) and eventually took both houses of Congress and held them for twelve years.

Never, never underestimate the resiliancy of the Republic Party.

As for Katrina, never OVERestimate the attention span of the American public.
