114. A man who is now in his forties
is someone I've known since he and my daughter were fourteen. When he confronted his sexuality, he turned to me, since his mother, who later took her life, would not listen to him.

I told him that to have love in his life was a thing of beauty, but to wait to form a permanent bond until he was older. That's the same thing I said to my daughter.

The three of us are all still close, and I can't begin to convey the love and joy my unofficially adopted son has given us. Why can't people just understand that people, and love, come in all sizes, shapes, and sexes? I am a small woman, and disabled, but I would come to his defense any time he needed it.

Let love rule us. He has a partner of many years, and an adopted son, and they are loving, and healthy, and happy, and a source of joy to my daughter and me.
