Always an unabashed liberal from equally unabashed San Francisco Bay area. His constituents continue to return him to Congress because he accurately and consistently represents their views.

Pelosi (whose district may even share a border with his, I'm not sure) should be pretty damn careful if she's considering woodshedding him.

At most a statement like "the whole country is frustrated by the president's disastrous and foolish Iraq policies and sometimes politeness fails. But one heated comment doesn't compare to tens of thousands of deaths and hundreds of thousands of crippling injuries, which is the truth of what's happening in Iraq. Our Republican colleagues need to look inside themselves -- as the American people have done -- and develop some sense of proportion."

But if she bashes him, or seems to be withering under 'Lican obloquy, then she'll lose mass quantities of credibility (and frankly, she's teetering already).
