Author Philp Dray speaks about his new book, "Stealing God's Thunder: Benjamin Franklin's Lightning Rod and the Invention of America" at the Old South Meeting House in Boston, Massachusetts, the birthplace of Ben Franklin. Mr. Dray uses slides to accompany his talk as he expounds on the life of one of America's Founding Fathers and the period in which he lived. The discussion focuses primarily on Ben Franklin's invention of the lightning rod and his revelation of the mysterious workings of lightning and thunder - studies that made him one of the foremost scientists of his day. Mr. Dray explores the importance of Franklin's discoveries in America as it emerged as a new country and his battles for recognition and respect from the world of science.
Philip Dray's other book is "At the Hands of Persons Unknown: The Lynching of Black America," which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the recipient of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Book Award and the Southern Book Critics Circle Award.
