33. This is a WWASP facility. God help those poor girls.
The Worldwide Association of Specialty Programs (WWASP) is the outfit that runs the Tranquility Bay "special needs school" in Jamaica.

This place is a recurring theme at DU, along with the Bob Jones University rulebook and the "modest swimwear" that looks like a wetsuit. You new kids, listen close: if you want to start a nice 300-400 reply thread, just post the link to a story about Tranquility Bay and stand back. It's fun and easy.

Tranquility Bay is kinda like Camp X-ray at Gitmo except you don't get lemon chicken* at Tranquility Bay. You also get to lay face-down on the floor with your arms at your sides for six months or so if you fuck up a little bit.

Tranquility Bay, of which you can read more than you really want to by googling "Tranquility Bay Jamaica," works by having the parents give the prison camp 49 percent custody of their kid and releasing them from liability for any damage they may cause to the child.

They also tell the parents not to leave Tranquility Bay brochures around the house, put them in for passports or anything else that might suggest they're going on an exotic island adventure that could end with them in a pine box. You're supposed to let the Tranquility Bay goon squad into your kid's bedroom in the middle of the night. They wake Junior up, cast him into irons, drive him to the airport and fly him to Jamaica.

Oh yeah...they also charge you forty thousand dollars a year. Kidnapping and physically abusing children isn't just fun, it's profitable.

* When the initial allegations of prisoner abuse at Gitmo were coming out, one of Bush's minions--I think it was Alberto Gonzalez--held a press conference to tell the world how good we were treating the prisoners. They had Korans, they had a Muslim chaplain, and we were feeding them Deluxe Gourmet Meals, such as the lemon chicken and rice pilaf we served them that very day.
