9. We've always called New Year's Eve "Amateur Night"
I hate the idea of partying because I'm "supposed to" or getting smashed because it's "the 'normal' thing to do." Being around drunk people is not fun and getting "crazy" just isn't me. And, if "everyone" is out partying and getting loaded, the last thing I want to do is be on the road and take a chance that the partiers will have the wisdom of choosing a designated driver.

I always stay home, do something I enjoy doing, and am usually in bed by 11 or so. The only time recently I stayed up was as we turned to 2000. I don't feel lonely or weird or out of step.

That said, it is good to know that the Internet allows others to express similar sentiments. In reality, I think more people stay in than go out. Peer pressure doesn't work on me.
