I think you guys are missing e menshevik's point. The name of the band was "The Grateful Dead" until Garcia's death, then the other members toured as "The Other Ones" for a few years. In 2004, they became "The Dead". However, the old "Grateful Dead" was commonly referred to as "The Dead". My 2 cents.
