2. Safe seats are vulnerable to primary challenges
I agree with you except for the 'voting for pukes' part. Where there is a contested election, funding and primary challenges can work, where there is a safe seat a primary challenge is a real pain in the ass and will cause grief and anguish.

Rather than voting puke, consider independents.
