Dear Senator Byrd:

I am writing to request that you reconsider your vote in support of Samuel Alito for Supreme Court Justice. Judge Alito's support of the unitary executive theory can only be a further erosion to the checks and balances set forth between the branches of government in our Constitution, a separation of powers for which the Bush Administration has already shown utter contempt. His lack of support for the rights of workers flies in the face of the reforms we so desperately need to protect the men who risk their lives daily in our mines. His disdain for the rights of women and minorities, his record of extremist dissents, and his refusal to answer questions for the Senate Judiciary Committee all appear to reflect the Bush Administration's apparent agenda to dismantle the American governmental system as we know it.

ABA rating notwithstanding, Judge Alito's bizarre beliefs about executive power alone can be nothing but harmful to our state and our nation. As you are both a champion of the Constitution of the great state of West Virginia, I am hoping that for the sake of all of us you will reconsider and vote against Samuel Alito for the United States Supreme Court.

Respectfully yours,

leftyclimber

edit -- typo, which I unfortunately emailed
