28. I wouldn't want to be colorblind
Is there something wrong with different skin colors that I should pretend they don't exist? That seems disrespectful. We should all be proud of our cultural ancestry and the physical cues that point to it, not expect others to intentionally overlook that we're African American/Native American/Latino/Asian/Slavic/Anglo/etc. I prefer to appreciate and respect all the little things that make each of us individuals and take a person as a whole, not wear blinders to certain aspects of people just because there are bigots and other intolerants out there. If it's important to them, if it's part of who they are, then it's important to me.

My closest friend is a proud self-described Mexican-American. If I had tried to ignore her ancestry, two things would've happened. She would have kicked my butt, and we wouldn't be best friends for 19 years. Okay, three things. I also wouldn't know bad words in Spanish.

Honestly, colorblind? And miss some of the most interesting stories and lessons others have to share, along with the little things that bind us together? Not on your life.

If it's the thread I think it is that's prompted your departure, then I think you read into things and got yourself worked up over your own interpretations...but oh well. Bye.
