I agree with this poster at Daily Kos:

Don't be fooled by this silly posturing, friends. It has the mark of Karl Rove all over it. This "leak" is a way to keep this controversy on the front page, relegating more substantive discussion of all the administration's failures to the back pages.

Am I the only one asking the question why the only Democratic congressman under investigation had his office raided? They never even raided Duke Cunningham's office, and he pleaded guilty. It's a typical Karl Rove twofer--smear a Democrat while pushing your boss's failures out of the public eye.

"Well clear of political considerations" means political considerations are at the FOREFRONT of this move. Again, it's the way Karl works--deny you're doing what you're doing before anyone even has a chance to accuse you of it. It's high time the corporate media got wise to his machinations.
