Oh, yeah; it was "inappropriate" for this kind of event. Or harsh criticism will create sympathy for Bush. Or it will make Democrats and liberals look bad. We must always be polite and tasteful and appropriate, never, ever make anybody feel uncomfortable. Be timid, acquiescent, tasteful, timorous, and always appropriate.

We sure win a lot of elections that way, don't we?

We sure prevent a lot of wars that way, don't we?

I call bullshit. It's about time somebody stood up and said what needed to be said, right to Bush's face. I am so sick of chickenshits who pretend to be liberals but don't have the courage of their convictions and who try to throw cold water on those who do.

Good for Stephen Colbert and Helen Thomas; now let's hope they serve as an inspiration to the others to grow spines and balls and stand up for the truth instead of worrying about giving offense.
