71. Lynne, I have lots of relatives in Maryland & Delaware -
They have the same complaint. My mom was born in Dover in 1917, and grew up on a farm in Chesapeake City. My brother was born (1958) in Elkton.

I haven't visited since 1989, but even then the sprawl in both states was shocking. I was still expecting corn fields, horse farms, roadside produce stands and pigging out on blue crabs.

Even Rehoboth wasn't the same, despite my aunt's cottage there.

Fairbanks has started its sprawl - we now have a Wal Mart, PetCo, Old Navy, Lowes, Home Depot, and even a Chili's restaurant.

I still shop at our home-town stores, including the hardware stores and such, even if they are more expensive. I'll put off a project before spending it on those who are ruining our scenic views and lowering the standard of living.

BTW, what did you think of Wal Mart deciding to dump their "day old" food and not give it to local food banks? Typical, hmmm? "Let 'em starve in the cold". Big Oil is "let 'em freeze in the dark".
