Then contact Congress now.

On C-Span today, Rep. Michael E. Capuano (D-MA) said that they haven't decided if they're going to ban private travel, or allow private organizations to pay for travel as long as a registered lobbyist isn't along for the ride.

The latter would let fake charities send the Congresspeople we helped elect to golf in Scotland and to corrupt the people we worked so hard to get into office.

I sent this message to my Congressperson and my Senators. Feel free to use it as is, or to put it into your own words:

Please ban privately-paid trips by members of Congress.

Do not make exceptions for trips paid for by lobbyists, educational groups, and charities. All three of those groups are seeking to influence legislation.

All travel by a member of Congress should be paid for by the public or by the member personally.

If a seminar, fact-finding mission, etc. is important, then the taxpayers should pay.
