Tell him to stop sending you that crap. Tell him you don't want to see it - or hear it - anymore. If he honors your wishes, case closed. If he keeps sending it or if he harasses you verbally with the same garbage, then bring HR into it. If you send him political stuff, stop right now because you will look silly if you complain about him and it turns out he's just keeping up his end of the conversation (as insane as his end obviously is.)

I'm always in favor of doing what you can within reason to make a problem go away before bringing in the authority types.
