I was thinking that we could break it down into sub categories. -- stop the bleeding
This is a great idea! Kudos.--Skinner
My major concern(s) are duplicate articles and maintaining simple organization once there are several articles added. Any thoughts on this from those of you that are working on this? This page needs to be easy to read, and manageable for research.--stop the bleeding
Agreed. We need to avoid simply throwing everything onto the list. Everything is pretty chaotic in this forum right now, because I think people are still figuring out what to do with it. But hopefully over time we will develop some standards for all this stuff. --Skinner
You could require that article titles be copied from articles (word for word), then the articles could be organized alphabetically (within appropriate subcategory, of course) and duplicates would be easy to spot for newbies and pros alike. --melissinha
I have been trying to use the strategy of using the article's title for the link title along with having the source off to the right to keep things organized, and this has worked so far. Also I have been trying to keep it somewhat chronological and will put dates in with the link if article is dated. A few of the first artcles on this thread need to be arranged in order by date. Any related articles I try to note as well. I have been extrememly busy with trying to keep up on new news, and I fear that I may be missing articles from one day to the next. Any more advice or help with this would be appreciated. -- stop the bleeding
While you were responding I kept brainstorming and came to same conclusion, here's a suggestion for a format: November 15, 2005 Bush didn’t Mislead on War, advisor said –lasvegassun.com (AP) or Bush didn’t Mislead on War, advisor said , November 15, 2005–lasvegassun.com (AP)
I agree chronological order is very important to this research and show development of trends and stories. But people need to beware that you will often see duplicate articles as a result of wire services' articles. Above referenced article was written by an AP writer, and will be noted in local websites or sites like yahoo following the title. Perhaps some designation in parentheses(AP) could follow the source indicating that original source was AP. j\Just some thoughts. --melissinha
I like using this format it looks the best and makes the most sense: November 15, 2005 Bush didn’t Mislead on War, advisor said –lasvegassun.com (AP)- I think using the parentheses is good as well, lastly did you put your example up in the thread?? -- stop the bleeding
I was using an article already in the thread (that had a date of Novermber 13th... OOPS!) Just had another thought, how about referencing the author's name.... Think Judy Miller ;-) It would be REALLY interesting to see if there are any trends as far as journalists go.... Besides its pretty standard bibliography procedure, right? What do you think?
November 13, 2005 Bush didn’t Mislead on War, advisor said Douglass K. Daniel–lasvegassun.com (AP)--melissinha
Agreed on the author thing for reason(s) listed, I will try to go back and organize/update dates, author's and chronological order of the articles that are already posted up top. This will be part of my task with my free time in the next 24 hrs which BTW is not much. So hopefully there will be a better look to it by Wednesday or Thursday, we also have to keep checking for new news, I pretty much go to the "Latest Breaking" threads and troll there for news, and then the GD, I have not had a chance to check out the websites that are listed here in the Research Forum for news yet, can't remember what the name of the thread was but that may be helpful as well. Gotta go - I am at work :hide: and do not want to anger the gods, will check back in a bit. -- stop the bleeding
I have been busy with "Preparation for war. Machinations with alleged links between Hussein's Iraq and al-Qaeda" topic and it is now updated based on date and has authors when I could find them. I will continue updating the other topics when I can -- stop the bleeding
I recreated the "Iraq War Exit Strategy and/or Resolution" topic for some reason it was erased from before, I think we should keep this unless I am missing something?? Also melissinha I had to correct your DemocracyNow post some of the commands were out of place and the link was not displaying correctly - I always "preview" my work and try to click on the link to make sure I did it correctly before submitting because not all of them follow the same format(BTW awesome interview heard it this morning)--stop the bleeding
Sorry, it was me who removed "Iraq War Exit Strategy and/or Resolution" because there was nothing in it. I never remove meaningful items. Now I renamed it it and made certain rearrangements for better organization. -- occuserpens
thank you occuserpens it looks great and I am assuming that you are looking at the Misc articles as well to see if they could be better placed or in some cases a new topic created for them. I am still trying add articles on a daily basis but also I would like to try and clean up the existing ones that lack dates, authors or that are out of chronological order.--stop the bleeding
All topics(except Misc) have been cleaned up as far as author's dates and chronological order, I still need to do the Misc topic when I have a chance --stb
Am I not finding the IWR? Or is that something that needs to be added??? If so, underwhat heading? I think it would be helpful to have a Congressional Resolutions: Authorization to go to War in Iraq . Any ideas about this???? I'm not sure it can be categorized as "machinations". -- melissinha
I assuming that you mean Iraq War Resolution? Yes - the topic that is named: Possible scenarios for the end of the Iraqi war was once called IWR but that was changed a few days ago(not by me). I am fine with leaving the title of the topic as is for now. If you feel that your article(s) may not fit under the current topic(s) then create new topic or place it undet the Misc topic. BTW that is what I do when I can't put it in a good place. I'm not good at naming the articles -- stb
Yes IWR or oint Resolution to Authorize the Use of United States Armed Forces Against Iraq , I think that we need to distinguish between articles and Congressional resolutions.... So I will go ahead and create a separate heading. I can be changed if this list changes in form, but for now I think it doesn't belong with news articles. --melissinha
looks great melissinha --stb
