22. Try the tripod.
You might find it isn't that much extra to carry around or work with once you get in the habit. Specially if you just keep the quick release on your camera all the time. Now if you are taking long hikes it might make a big difference weight and bulk wise.
Nice lens and having the IS makes a big difference between good and bad handheld pictures. Can't wait to see what you find to do close ups of with all the swamp and natural beauties around you.
