The Church always spends 5 or 6 hundred years fighting progress tooth and nail. Then when it becomes obvious that humanity is ignoring the Church and moving forward, the Church steps up and tries to take the credit for all the progress.

You see the same thing on the political front. Reading some of the Catholic Apologist websites, you'd think the Catholic Church invented democracy. When all in all, it has been one of the most authoritarian and anti-democratic forces on Earth.

IMO, it still is. But if I posted this in the R&T forum, the Professional Catholics would immediately start reminding me about how much GOOD the Church has done!
