9. Don't know. I learned about it from a nutrition lecture, and cleared it
with my OBGYN during my pregnancy. I continued to take it while pumping. I am a programmer, with a clear understanding of "garbage in/garbage out" which is leading me to the following theory:

The "trace" minerals in this product are ones we all ingest normally in the course of eating a normal "healthy" diet. During pregnancy these minerals cross over to the baby(ies), but with preemies, they lose time in the womb and thus lose the trace minerals from their mother (but probably get some through breast milk). Formula fed babies probably get less. Anyway, when the preemies start eating "real food", then they start getting the "trace" minerals and their growth catches up.

If this theory is correct, then I just short cutted the process by getting them the trace minerals early.

Again, I'm just a programmer and not a trained medical person. I have provided all of the information to the head of my NICU, and the company that supplies the product is sending him a free sample. We were told to give the babies 1 ml of a liquid poly vitamin per day, and 0.2 ml of a liquid iron supplement, and continue to do so. This particular supplement is simply the rest of the minerals. Their growth and health is AMAZING and, as far as I know, unprecedented.

Only testing will determine if this is a possible way to enhance the health of other premature infants. I hope it is....
