This is too important, it needs lots of discussion and it needs time for understanding. This is many times a life and death issue and it has gotten very hostile out there on the boards. It feels like all the old flare ups, like the flare ups over the Super Bowl ad only it does not stop anymore. How many times must we explain the wrongness of "Man Colter"? How many times do we have to hear the response that we should get a sense of humor or get over ourselves? How many times must people here be told that their issue is just not important when it means everything to their very freedom in this country? How many times should they have to hear that their very freedom is just not that important and that they may cost us the election by wanting nothing more than equality?
As one of the allies here I must say again that by reading those threads I have learned many things that help me in this fight for GLBT equality. I absolutely hate that they have been locked for the same reasons those above have posted but also selfishly because they are so very informative.
I am tired and very emotional right now having just come from a meeting about just this sort of thing. This is just not the kind of thing that can be forgotten and moved past. I wish it were not that important but it is. It is life. It is freedom and it is all about equality. How could that not be important enough to address head on?
Edit to add this...
"I know everyone is feeling pretty worn out and frustrated on DU these days. I know I am." Try making that frustration the central part of your existence, always and forever if we do not get a handle on this. This IS their life and then they come here with the intention of trying to make it better and get mowed over constantly by bigots or people who may not be but are unwilling to listen and learn and allowed to continue their behavior unimpeded. Imagine.
