When I came out I had a church leader and a "friend" tell me the wages of sin are death. My "friend" told me she was worried Id end up a drunk in the gutter having to have my legs amputated (no Im not making this up!).

I think the more socially conservative the religion the more likely you will see members and leaders denying science in order to explain their own fears.
