1. Support "civil unions" for now, this is one issue where I'm willing to make a (hopefully short term) bargain with the devil.

2. Allow gays to serve openly in the military. Hold all soldiers to the same standards of personal and interpersonal conduct regardless of orientation.

3. Crack down on schoolhouse homophobia by conducting frequent audits and tying funding to a school's success in maintaining a welcoming social climate.

4. To eliminate anti-sex attitudes that could be implied by the compromise on #1, eliminate the phrase "abstinence until marriage" from all sex ed classes. (this would also be a good opportunity to slide comprehensive ed in there)

5. Employment anti-discrimination act for all private employers not directly affiliated with a church. Ditto for housing, insurance, credit, and finance.

6. Combat inequality in entertainment rating systems so that sex scenes of equal explicity don't get different ratings if they are gay vs straight. (this is more important than you might think of at first since the rating sends a message of age-appropriateness and NC-17s are largely ostracized from the mainstream market).
