10. Hey, since you're so interested in the Nazi connection, check this out
This is a portion of what the Nazi's reported to supiriors about the Catholic Ustaše atrocities and crimes against humanity and so forth.. You can tell that the behavior of these Catholic Ustaše forces were so outrageous that it even disturbed the Nazi's. Oh yeah, The Ustaše Identified with the Nazi's because they were both Right Wing Christian Corporatists. They were Catholic Fascists Nationalists basically. Anyway....

Our troops have to be mute witnesses of such events; it does not reflect well on their otherwise high reputation... I am frequently told that German occupation troops would finally have to intervene against Ustaše crimes. This may happen eventually. Right now, with the available forces, I could not ask for such action. Ad hoc intervention in individual cases could make the German Army look responsible for countless crimes which it could not prevent in the past.<46>

A Gestapo report to Reichsführer SS Heinrich Himmler, dated February 17, 1942, stated that:

Increased activity of the bands is chiefly due to atrocities carried out by Ustaše units in Croatia against the Orthodox population. The Ustaše committed their deeds in a bestial manner not only against males of conscript age, but especially against helpless old people, women and children. The number of the Orthodox that the Croats have massacred and sadistically tortured to death is about three hundred thousand.

As far as these 5 women the Pope is making a political point with are concerned...I wouldn't believe the details about the story without plenty of independent (non Catholic) verification. There were to many Priests, and I assume nuns as well, who participated in the forced conversions and killings of masses of men women and children... often forcing them to convert to Catholicism and killing them afterwords while they were still in church.
