It has been shown that people will revert back to something that gives them hope for the future when they hit a time of stress or have a fear of the future. The people that follow a religion today have a great fear of what the future holds for them and mankind. It is easier for them to believe in something that they have no control over. That this "god" will make things right instead of relying on themselves or others like them. I only have to believe to be saved. The world around them is too much for them to handle without this belief. Their problem lyes (sp) with whom they believe is telling them the truth.
If someone wants to believe in a god and it helps them travel through their life and makes it better then I do not have a problem with that. it is when they try to force their beliefs on others and close off their mind to new wonders of the universe, then I have a problem with them.
