The Dorchester People for Peace and the Veterans for Peace marched together in the Dorchester Day Parade. A very nice lady marched with us to honor her cousin’s son, Marine Reserve Lance Corporal Karl R. Linn of Chesterfield, VA who died in Iraq. Would you take a moment to hear her story in her own words?

I am wearing the number 1,401 in memory of my cousin’s son, Karl, the 1,401st American killed in Iraq. Over 1,500 Americans have been killed, and over 100,000 Iraqi men, women, and children. I remember them all.

Karl was only 20 years old, and the three buddies that were killed with him were 23, 24, and 24. He was very dedicated to the Marines and respected by his fellow soldiers. He was doing a man’s work, even though he was only 20.

Karl’s patrol was ambushed on January 26th (2005) under a full moon, so I will call the January moon every year, Karl’s moon. And even though I know Karl left college and went willingly to war when his reserve unit was called up, I can’t help wishing he’d been back home and out with a sweetheart under that full moon.

My hope for all young people is that you never go to war. Just as we try to teach you to find ways to work out problems with each other, my hope for the world is the same.

I told this lady I would post her story on DU, and gave her information how to find this forum. Any thoughts you wish to share with her or her family?
