The other day elsenet, I had some dumbass liberarian trying to explain to me that Canada's an absolute monarchy, and that the British "retook Canada while we were busy with the Civil War."

Of course, I've seen similar sentiments expressed on DU, but not quite off to that level of idiocy.

But yeah, I do agree that, at last at the provincial level up here, Canadian Conservative legislators probably aren't that different from southern Democrats. The federal ones define themselves more in terms of whatever the Republicans want, but half of them probably wouldn't be able to win an election under the GOP in the US.
