Reply #11: Here's how this all started, and how it ended up where it is...

On Saturday, right after the town hall, Chuckie was pontificating over his cell phone to Melissa Rehberger. There was no other network covering it live, complete with talking heads after the fact, that I could find. Chuck alone decided Obama was backing off on the public option. He hinged the whole thing on the phrase "whether the public option is in the plan or not" in the POTUS's answer to a guy about something totally different (there's a thread around here somewhere with the exact answer in which this occurred).

Of course that, to Chuck, meant Obama was abandoning his support for it. The usual suspects (AP, Politico, et. al.), ran with it under the cover of the "liberal" MSNBC saying it, so they couldn't be shown to be "partisan" in their opinions. Of course no one has explained why Obama would spend so much time explaining it to the American people, and in that particular town hall, if he didn't want it, but I digress.

The next day, Sunday, when Sebelius said what she said (bad messaging, not precise enough), the rest of the MSM took Chuckie's ball and ran down the field with it. This leaves us where we are today (and every Monday): DU freaks out and vows to never, ever, ever vote for a Democrat again, ever(!) as long as they live!

As far as I can find, no one in the WH said they were abandoning to public option, but the truth matters little during a hot Sunday in August.
