An analysis of Sarah Palin's Facebook entry regarding Obama's "death panel"

Statement on the Current Health Care Debate
As more Americans delve into the disturbing details of the nationalized health care plan that the current administration is rushing through Congress, our collective jaw is dropping, and we’re saying not just no, but hell no!

Is Palin referring to Medicare, Medicaid, VA medical benefits and SCHIP (among others), which are "nationalized" government-run health care plans?

The Democrats promise that a government health care system will reduce the cost of health care, but as the economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, government health care will not reduce the cost; it will simply refuse to pay the cost. And who will suffer the most when they ration care?

Besides that simplistic lie, does Palin also support Sowell's opinion that drugs should be decriminalized? Do government-run health care programs that already exist (as mentioned above) ration care? Sowell also had to walk back his email back in 2008 where he was exposed as a Birther.

The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course.

One would assume that healthy people would not need to have health care services, hence those that are sick, elderly or disabled are indeed the ones who would require health care services.

The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s “death panel” so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their “level of productivity in society,” whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.

Obama’s “death panel”? This is a lie and fabrication that is based on using completely simplistic statements to make people be scared. Why not say that Obama is also a vampire who wants to suck the blood from little Alaskan children? There is absolutely no reference ANYWHERE that calls for a "death panel". There is some legislation regarding hospice care for those wishing to continue health care or not in their last days. There is absolutely no mentioning of selecting who lives or dies from some bureaucratic panel. This is just another example of how low Sarah Palin will go to use her children as props for her political selfish ends.

Health care by definition involves life and death decisions. Human rights and human dignity must be at the center of any health care discussion.

Paging Captain Obvious! Captain Obvious! Perhaps mentioning that any health care discussion should also be done without unsocial screaming and lying by the Right.

Rep. Michele Bachmann highlighted the Orwellian thinking of the president’s health care advisor, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the brother of the White House chief of staff, in a floor speech to the House of Representatives. I commend her for being a voice for the most precious members of our society, our children and our seniors.

 Wow. Citing loony crackpot Michele Bachmann as some kind of faux-intellectual talking point is enough to make this whole screed of hers laughable. Bachmann, no stranger to racketeering "prosperity gospel" Christianist thugs that are funding and part of the Party of No Manners Holligans yelping Freedomworks.com talking points at town meetings, uses fear tactics and outright lies to try to persuade people that seniors and disabled people will have their health care plans and coverage snatched away. Putting Palin and Bachmann together is absolutely the perfect vision of madness.

We must step up and engage in this most crucial debate. Nationalizing our health care system is a point of no return for government interference in the lives of its citizens. If we go down this path, there will be no turning back.

Again, is Palin referring to nationalized. government-run health care programs mentioned earlier? Where has she been? Never mind. Sarah, we have been down "that path" for a few decades already. Even dumbass Birthers have cried out "keep your government off my Medicare"... which sounds like they like their government-run health care, if they only knew it was run by the government...

Ronald Reagan once wrote, “Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth.” Let’s stop and think and make our voices heard before it’s too late.

- Sarah Palin

Perhaps Palin doesn't realize that Reagan was initially for cutting Medicare and Medicaid and many in the medical community were fearful of rationing of health care. This is precisely what Palin would have feared if she truly had a couple brain cells in her skull. But Reagan, despite all his bluster about cutting health care, didn't do much. And he also bloated government and the deficit greatly during his corrupt administration. Add that the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington DC is the LARGEST goverment building in that town.

Palin's screed is awash in lies. She and Michelle Bachmann may enjoy appealing to the ever-shrinking Republican base, but people don't like liars. Or quitters.
