Because you are using photos to create a symbolic statement so everything in your rendition is symbolic. MLK is a archetypal giant of a man in our history so his actual physical size is insignificant and when you make him larger than life you are saying his legacy is larger than life, which is the way it is. Obama being smaller than MLK signifies that he is just now taking on MLKs legacy to do whatever comes next.

For crying out loud, don't change it. When it comes to artwork nothing is an accident since part of the act of doing art is subconscious. Interesting things always come out that surprise even the creator of the art piece.
