I might be inclined to agree that this must be pursued so it leaves no doubt Obama is clean in this regard. But that isn't the way it works. No matter what happens, the far right will never be convinced. They will say Blago took the fall for Obama or the prosecution was rigged. If partisan Republicans control the investigation, they will pursue it at all costs to try to distract Obama from the pressing matters at hand and to use any insinuation to cast doubt on Obama.

Do you remember the 1990s? Whiteater, Troopergate, etc. they couldn't prove the Clintons did anything wrong there, but one investigation led to another and eventually they were able to impeach Clinton over something stupid.

So it would be with this. If at any point Obama did something not kosher (even not related to Blago) they will keep digging until they find it.
