...was purely because I couldn't come up with something else for "middling". I meant "Middle England" as in the middle rather than any political view.

The Times used to have a reputation which they zealously guarded, for reliable, apolitical coverage. Granted, they've since been sold to Murdoch but the editors seem to be fighting him. The Torygraph, while mildly slanted, also tries bloody hard to get it's facts straight. I'm trying to evaluate not their political stance but how reliable their reporting is. Personally, I take the Indy.

In terms of genuinely apolitical reportage, you're right. Probably only the FT and a few local papers qualify. The Standard maybe? Haven't read it in years.
