Who is a challenge to what they feel they are entitled to. Republicans hate democrats because democrats challenge their felt entitlement to power. Democrats hate republicans for the same reason. Obama supporters hated Clinton supporters basically because she dared challenge him for a nomination that they thought he had wrapped up. Clinton supporters hated Obama supporters for pretty much the same reason. They thought she deserved the nomination and resented a neophyte pretty boy taking it away from her.

It isn't pretty. In fact, it's very ugly. But it's human nature. THus it has always been. Thus it will always be. We rationalize our feelings of self-righteous entitlement by demonizing anyone who would dare challenge us. Democrats are no better or worst than Republicans in this regard.
